SURPRISE!

Surprise!  Or not. Okay, who told?  Yeah, she wasn't really surprised, but she had a great time.  Here are a few pics from the Sweet 16 shindig.  We had a HUGE turnout and I was so busy mingling, that I forgot to take pictures-GASP!  Dangit.  Thankfully we got a few pics, but lots and lots of great memories.

Some things never change

This is one time that I hope my daughter isn't listening.  Or reading.

She has a birthday coming up.   The BIG one, her Sweet 16.  Crazy.  And no, no I'm NOT old enough to have a teenager!

Don't tell her, but I am throwing her a SURPRISE party!  Shhhh......

I love to throw parties.  Especially the surprise kind.  And I am VERY excited about this!

I have been working my behind off (I wish!) making all the decorations and planning the fun.  Eeeeek, I LOVE it SO much!

Although I LOVEAME some vintage decor, it just isn't much her style, so I am going all out Alixx style and using a more unique/crazy theme of zebra print and hot pink with a touch of silver.  I must admit, I really like it and it's been quite fun.  I'll be posting pictures soon.

Tonight I was looking for a few more ideas for decor (THANKS PINTEREST!) and stumbled across this great picture from the 1950's (My FAV).

It's funny how some things never really change.  Children's parties have always been a big deal, as they should be.  I love it!

I wonder if it's too late to change the theme?  I like the circus, LOL!
So, if any of my friends/family are reading this.....just remember, my birthday is in December ;)  Teeheehee!

A little lovin'

Check out this little beauty.  $30 bucks at the DI baby!  Oh yeah.

And her little sister, $5 bucks at a yard sale!  Couldn't pass that up....nope.

Here they are happily ever after...
Ta da!  After a little lovin', they are happy as can be.  YAY!

Vintage yard art

I love this time of year.  I wish I could bottle summer and enjoy it all year.  Mostly because I get paid to stay home (best job EVER!), but really because I get to spend unlimited time with my kids. We love to spend time outdoors.  I have spent lots of time getting my yard in shape and looking nice.  It's a never ending battle keeping the weeds out, but worth the time I have to spend admiring all of my fun yard art.

Now these pictures are definitely NOT the best, and my poor flowers are feeling the 90 degree weather and heavy wind we had today, but I still wanted to post them.  The darn birds got to my strawberries today, too.  They've been really good about leaving them alone up until this week.  Time to set up the covers.

How fun is this?  I've had this old ammo box for years.  I've always used it as a flower box, so it's weathered and aged perfectly.  I have a little collection of milk jugs.  They are so fun to use.

I found this old water pump at a yard sale for a mere $15 dollars!  I cannot tell you how excited I was over that find.  I'm madly in love with my vintage wheelbarrow as well.  Look how pretty my salvia is and my daisies are starting to bloom.  Any day now.
Looks like I need to fill in a few spots with my petunias.  It's a good thing my vintage Tonka trucks are so cute....takes away from the bald spots!  Hahaha.

A vintage Radio Flyer wagon is a perfect flower garden.  Just remember to water often.  As I mentioned before, today was hot and windy and these guys show it.

This is an old chicken coop door given to me by a dear friend and former neighbor.  It was in her yard when she was growing up.  I plan to grow clematis and let it vine up it and the porch.
This is a drawer from an old dresser.  The dresser has been gone for 40 years, but the drawer holds my strawberries well.  Now if I can just keep those birds away!

Camping.....Vintage Style!

Years ago we had this piece of junk old camping trailer.  It was falling apart, it smelled bad, it was a real eyesore, BUT we had some of the best times of our lives in it!  It was an early 80's model, red and white, and FANTASTIC!  I miss that thing.

Last year we bought another one.  Thankfully this one is on much better shape, doesn't smell and is quite a bit larger.  I have big plans for this thing.  BIG plans!

I figure with as much time as we spend camping, we may as well do it in style.  Get ready for the BIG overhaul.  ETA 3 weeks!

Enjoy the before pictures, and stay tuned......

Vintage Love

Summer is in full swing and I finally have more time to work on the MANY projects that have been piling up over time.  First up is the vintage door and farm table bench for my front porch.   Both were found in an old building/barn that hadn't been used for about 40 years.  The farm table wasn't very large or I would have used it for my own kitchen table, so it is now used as a desk in my vinyl cutting room and the bench looks lovely on my porch!

The bench was originally a cream color, but someone had given it a very poor paint job with an avacado-ish green.  They didn't exactly finish it, but that worked well in my favor.  I added a bit of cranberry from my kitchen, along with a blue I had mixed up for my new office, sanded, scuffed, and VIOLA.....L.O.V.E the finished project!   I'm thinking yellow for the chalkboard???

I wanted to door to match, but not exactly, so all I did to it was cover the original yellowing white with the same blue, sand, scuff, and once again....L.O.V.E the finished piece.  I am currently working on a twine covered wreath to hand on the window. I can't seem to find the before picture, but the after is all that's really matter anyway, right?!
Don't you just LOVE the chairs?  I sure do!  Funny story about them.  When we first moved here a few years ago, I saw them sitting in the middle of someone yard on my way home.  They were white and rusty with weeds growing through them.  I felt bad for them and wanted to give them a new home-MINE.  Finally, last summer, after driving past them 10 million times, I decided to stop at the house, knock on the door and offer to buy them.  They lady was so nice, she just GAVE them to me!  HAPPINESS!!!  I took them home, washed them up, sanded off the rust and painted them the happiest yellow I could find.  I am currently searching for the perfect material to make seat cushions as they are not very comfortable to sit in.  But hey, at least they are happy and look fantastic!!!
